PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS: HOW TO ADVISE YOUR CUSTOMERS BEFORE THE FIRST CUT

SHARP BLADES AND PRACTICAL DETERRENT MEASURES

Grassland areas will soon be due for their first cut, and your customers will be preparing to produce feed of the highest quality. With our tips, you can help your customers avoid costly mistakes and make their work more efficient.

Sharpness is key

Mower blades last for around 200 hectares, but for many farmers that isn’t enough. Many of your customers are probably inclined to use their mower blades for as long as possible in order to save on replacement parts costs.

However, the power required tells a different story. Even though blunt blades still produce a reasonably clean cut due to the sheer speed at which they rotate, the tractor has to use significantly more power to cut the grass. This not only results in a lower working speed during mowing (and a lower area output as a result), but noticeably higher fuel consumption as well. A smooth, sharp cut saves costs and also has a positive effect on new growth, which helps to prepare for subsequent cuts. If your customers maintain a mowing depth of at least 7 centimetres above the ground, nothing will stand in the way of high-quality feed.

Safeguard wildlife before the first cut

The first cut coincides with the breeding season for many wild animals that use meadow habitats as a nursery. In order to make it more efficient to search grassland areas before the first cut, we recommend using deterrent measures 24 to 48 hours before mowing. The GRANIT wildlife savers produce a blue flashing light and a piercing beep at regular intervals, both of which are avoided by deer in particular. This gives does the chance to get their fawns out of the fields, and makes the search for wild animals just before mowing much quicker. These deterrent measures have been tested by hunters and have delivered excellent results.

You can now support your customers with more than just new mower blades. By purchasing a blade grinder for mower blades up to 3.5 metres, you can also expand your workshop offering. This means that mower blades from the previous year can be used for longer, and your customers will benefit from both sharp blades and top performance at a fantastic price.
